Mr. Shyam Bahadur Karki was born and resides in Sanga Nasika Village Development Committee-06 (old), now Sanga, Banepa Municipality-14, in Kavrepalanchok District. Mr. Karki earned his Master of Laws (LL.M.) with a specialization in Commercial Law from Nepal Law Campus, Tribhuvan University, in 2056 B.S., graduating with second division. His dedication to commercial law has made him a notable figure in both the banking and financial sectors. From the beginning, Mr. Karki demonstrated a strong commitment to law and legal education, which enabled him to serve at various law schools across Nepal. His passion and dedication also allowed him to take on key decision-making roles in several institutions.
Mr. Karki was among the first batch of LL.M. students in Nepal. He joined Tribhuvan University as a Teaching Assistant at Mahendra Ratna Multiple Campus, Ilam, on 2055/12/22 B.S., where he served for almost eight years in both academic and non-academic roles. He has taken great pride in serving Tribhuvan University since the beginning of his academic journey. Recognizing his sincerity and dedication, he was promoted to Lecturer/Assistant Professor on 2064/10/25 B.S. and was subsequently transferred to the prestigious Nepal Law Campus.
Mr. Karki developed a consistent teaching routine that extended beyond the classroom. He actively worked to apply classroom learning to real-world settings through community engagement. He became a key member of the faculty and was especially known for his initiatives in clinical legal education. These programs enabled students to share their insights with society and address real-life issues through legal outreach. On 2072/12/15 B.S., Mr. Karki was promoted to Associate Professor by the University, acknowledging his years of service and dedication across various Tribhuvan University campuses. He continues to serve in this role. Since 2080/10/24 B.S., Mr. Karki has also been serving as the Campus Chief of Nepal Law Campus. In this capacity, he is recognized for the reforms he has introduced in a short period, striving to create an enhanced learning environment and promote academic excellence.
Mr. Karki is a member of the Faculty Board of Tribhuvan University and serves as Chair of the Civil Law Subject Committee under the Faculty of Law. He has been performing exceptionally in his leadership role at the central law campus, driven by his vision of transforming Nepal Law Campus into a center of excellence in legal education. He is committed to continuing the historic legacy the campus has built since its establishment. He strongly believes that legal education should be applied as a practical science, not confined to classrooms. His projects aimed at reaching villages and communities have helped highlight the relevance and impact of legal education under his leadership. The scope and approach to legal education have seen transformative changes during his tenure.
Mr. Karki has authored several textbooks and reference books, including Introduction to Contract Law, Business Law, and Legal Environment for Business in Nepal, among others. He has also written various manuscripts to enhance students’ knowledge. His exceptional writing skills in commercial law have earned him numerous awards and recognitions in the field of legal education. Additionally, he has contributed many single and co-authored research articles published in national and international journals. His deep insights and reflections on law and legal education have significantly empowered both the institution and its faculty.
